May 16, 2009   ARYPT Victorious

ARYPT head with seeming invinciblity towards a League and Cup Double. But they were made to fight all the way to cup success by a spirited Sporting Club Myton in the Cup Final at Cryfield Grange today.

Following a goaless first half, where ARYPT had the better of the chances the game spang into life in a pivotal ten minute spell. Firstly Myton crafted a well worked goal finished well by Stu James after fantastic approach play by Andy Armitage. Then Sam Smith of Myton saw yellow then red in quick succession, reducing the Leamington team to ten men. However Myton’s young keeper continued to keep ARYPT at bay as the minutes drained away, only for ARYPT to snatch an equaliser at the death following a close range shot that deflected in off the post. Myton reflected ruefully that they were two minutes from glory.

Extra time came and with the man advantage, most of the initiative came came from ARYPT. The game stayed level into the middle of the second half of extra time, until a succession of a corner followed by a long throw undid the defiant Myton rearguard. The clinching third goal came shortly afterwards, with Myton pushing forward and ARYPT taking advantage of the break. The move and effectively the game was finished off with a stunning strike into the far corner of the net.

The game was closely fought between two footballing sides and was a great credit to the League. ARYPT are the team to beat next season.

  2. Congratulations to Tommy Moores, and bad luck to Sporting Myton - it would have been nice to go out to the winners!

I believe that Meredith Road may have been the last double winners, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, so I guess Tommy Moores will be aiming for that honour this year - only Cov Saints can prevent this - no pressure Beatrice but if they win all their remaining games and you lose yours it could be curtains (see you on 6th June). Good luck to both teams in the run in. MRBCFC will be back!

  3. Thanks Steve. what are you trying to do to us put a spell on us not to be as successfull as Meredith Rd, we take each game as it comes have you never heard of counting your chickens before they are hatched.

Re: the Cup Final have you forgotten when we played you in 2006 when we assisted Meredith in winning the Final by giving an own goal to you, see Tommy More’s are not an unsociable bunch of Lads they help where they can.

We look forward to playing our last 4 games of the season
and like every Team we will do our best to try & be successful in each game. See you on the 6th Steve.

  5. Hi everyone,
I didn’t really get a chance to thank Les for booking such a smashing pitch for the final - it really was an excellect surface.

The unfortunate thing was that i didnt have a ‘bobble’ to blame for when i took a shot that ended up closer to my own goal than than Myton’s - i think i may be the first person to do this in a final but if anyone knows any different please let me know.

    Many thanks,
    Edward
