October 24, 2007 Update
Well, there were some interesting scores over the weekend, weren’t there?
In Division 1, Cathedral overcame Hinckley Dare with the first-half show - all 5 goals in a 5-0 win coming in the opening 45 minutes. In the weekend’s other Div 1 game, Sporting Club Myton again showed why they’ve got the meanest defence in the league with a hard-earned 1-0 win against Binley.
In Division 2, Hinckley Baptist put the ghosts of their cup defeat to bed, with a fine 9-0 victory over Holy Trinity, and Queens Road registered a healthy 4-1 away win against Elim Eagles. Meanwhile, in the “south Coventry” derby, St John’s and New Horizons served up an entertaining 2-2 draw.
That’s all for this week folks!
October 20, 2007 Cup Draw
Hey there CovChurchFootball fans! Apologies for the delay, was away for a bit in not-so-sunny Finland trying to stay warm…
So, the quarter finals of the cup have been drawn, and there are some meaty ties. The undoubted tie of the round sees Division 1 first and second play each other as Sporting Club Myton host ARYPT1 - while the remaining 3 ties all feature Div2 teams playing host to Div1′ers. Holy Trinity Attleborough will face a stern test from Cathedral, while Coventry Saints will have to be at their best to contain Binley - and ARYPT2 will be looking to give a good performance against Meredith. All ties to be played 24.11.
So today, mostly a full house of fixtures, but a few postponements - so makes sure you all get your results in to me sharpish.
October 7, 2007 Update
Another Monday, another update on the weekend’s results!
Things were looking tasty in Division 1, with early pacesetters ARYPT1 and Binley facing each other in a top of the table clash, and ARYPT1 came out victors with a convincing 4-1 win. This gave Sporting Club Myton an opportunity to seize second place, and they duly obliged with a 2-0 win over Lowfors. Meanwhile Affinity remain rooted to the foot of the table, losing 2-0 to Cathedral who record their first league win of the season.
In Division 2, it was a story of two halves for St John’s and Hinckley Baptist. Trailing at the break, St John’s managed to dig deep and triumph 6-3 over Coventry Saints - and Hinckley Baptist recovered from being 3 down after 10 minutes to register a 5-3 victory over Queens Road. In the other game, Elim Eagles added another win to their tally, with a 3-2 away win over New Horizons.
Also chaps, a quick reminder, if I may, to ask you to let me know when games have been rearranged so that I can update the website to let everyone know what’s going on. I get e-mails y’see, asking.
October 2, 2007 Update
Wow, a feast of football goals in the opening weekend of the cup, with only one of the games not registering 5 or more goals to one side. It was also a good weekend for the away sides, as 5 of the 8 ties resulted in the home teams being knocked out of the cup.
So, on to the results. Sporting Club Myton repeated their opening-day performance with a 6-1 reverse of Hinckley Dare, and fellow Division 1 members Meredith Road & Cathedral negotiated tricky ties over Division 2 teams New Horizons & Queens Road respectively.
In the all-Division 1 ties, Binley ran out good winners against Affinity with a 7-1 win and ARYPT1 overcame Lowfors in a tight match, triumphing 2-1.
The Quarter-finals will feature 3 Division 2 teams though, as Coventry Saints carried on their fine start to the season with a 5-2 win over Elim, and ARYPT2 will be looking for a decent cup run after beating St Johns. And finally, ladies and gents, please put your hands together for Holy Trinity Attleborough who registered their first win of the season - and what a win - with a 5-1 victory over Nuneaton neighbours Hinckley Baptist. Well done chaps!
So, in to the draw for the next round (to take place, erm, sometime in the next few weeks):
- Sporting Club Myton (Div1)
- Coventry Saints (Div2)
- Meredith Road (Div1)
- Holy Trinity Attleborough (Div2)
- ARYPT 2 St Thomas More (Div2)
- Binley (Div1)
- ARYPT 1 St Thomas More (Div1)
- Cathedral (Div1)
Ties to be played Saturday 24.11.07. That’s all for this week folks!
